Introduction to climbing day – Pureoutdoor

Introduction to Climbing day with PureOutdoor – Crow Chin, Stanage (Peak District)

My second introduction to (trad/rock) climbing course was very much a last minute decision, with me booking literally the night before the single day course through Pure Outdoor, based in the Peak District.

Although I’ve already done a similar course, being…

  • A) a complete beginner to climbing and
  • B ) it potentially being the last nice weekend of the year suitable for outdoor climbing…

I decided to join and get some more experience and confidence out on the rock and make the most of the cool but sunny weather.

It was a much smaller group this time with there just being three of us in total, which meant being able to try a number of different routes, get more practice belaying and really get hands on up at Crow Chin in Stanage. Plenty of others had clearly had the same thought, as Stanage Edge, North and Plantation crags were packed with climbers making the most of the October sunshine.

After a full day on the rock, I came away tired and sore but feeling even more confident in belaying, as well as having gaining even more knowledge and tips on technique building on from my previous course.

I’m loving climbing, and while it’s sport climbing rather than trad, in November I’m starting an indoor ‘Learn to Climb’ course and fully intend on building my technique and strength over Winter. Then come Spring I’ll be ready to be back outdoors getting more bruised knees and scrapes out on the rocks. ❤️🧗
